time stops reflective waiting for someone to recognize the moment free of context of process of history the significance of ice freezing at the poles saline water sinking bullets fired into the air falling somewhere where children may be playing or a dog on a leash may be barking at the squirrel in the oak tree planted by the previous owner reefs built layer upon layer like apartment complexes in Ghaza I can’t remember my children at any other time like Europe continuously resurrected America’s manifest destiny rock strata fossils preserved in scrapbook earth floods meteorite impacts slow excruciating drips of water carrying calcium carbonate stalactites war photos census records changing demographics shhhhhh I just put the baby to bed she’s not yet asleep as soon as she is quiet time will start again and morning will come too soon
